Talk Title:
Role of Web Computing in Creative Thinking
Abstract:
Web Computing includes all the items regarding representation, processing, retrieval, classification and interpretation of information, in the cases where such information is encapsulated in web pages. On the other side, creative thinking is a style of thinking which is concerned with generating new (and sometimes amazing) ideas whose formation within the framework of the conventional approaches to problem solving/decision making is not possible. The point peculiar in case of creative thinking is human attention toward those aspects of a problem base on which the person may have the ability to make use of the hidden points in problem solving/ decision making. The question is whether the intelligent web systems in general (and those with cognitive mechanisms in particular) could basically be capable of giving birth to a suitable ground for creative decision making within the process of interaction with the users. If so, then what phases are to be considered within such a process. In the meantime, one may be interested to know how this capability should be used by the users in the way they could gradually tend to creative thinking in an effective/proficient manner. There is no doubt that formation of creative thinking mechanisms in human being is in need of a set of psychological transformations according to which a sort of reasonable and well-directed learning would occur with the aim of constructing particular concepts and mental schemas in him/her. Moreover, one may expect that, besides such a process of learning, a reasonable interaction between a user and particular formats of information, which is obtained under utilizing the principles of human intelligence/cognitive psychology, would have the ability to lead to emergence of particular forms of knowledge in terms of psycho-mental schemas which would support users’ creative thinking as well as creative decision making. Such an interaction is expected to make sense in the situations where, beside the idea/solution provided by the web system, the system could also take the responsibility of explaining why a certain idea/ solution is appropriate as well as explaining the appropriateness of the relations between the components of a problem, the micro-structures existing in it and finally the context within which an idea/solution could work successfully.
In this talk, having discussed the above mentioned items, the very phases which are essential to making users tend to creative thinking, and additionally, the format of utilizing the capabilities of a web system with the aim of putting forward creative ideas within the framework of the desired goals, will be addressed thoroughly.
